Alan has been flying hang gliders and paragliders since 2002 at the Andy Jackson Airpark.  At the local level Alan has served as the club president and treasurer for the Crestline Soaring Society and as treasurer for the Soboba Soaring Club. He also served two terms representing the southern California flying community as the regional director for the United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (USHPA).

At a national level Alan has served as both President and Vice President of the USHPA and still remains active on numerous USPHA committees.  In 2023 he received the highest honor granted by the USHPA – The Presidential Citation.

Alan retired following a 40-year career in IT and management in a variety of public and private positions.
